Canyon supports 'Deutsche Initiative Mountain Bike e.V.'

The 'Deutsche Initiative Mountain Bike e.V' (German Initiative Mountain Bike), or DIMB for short, has been in existence since 1990. The main aims of the non-profit-making organisation are the peaceful cooperation between mountain bikers and walkers as well as a responsible interaction with the environment. The slogan ""OPEN TRAILS"" underscores the desire for equal treatment of all those who use the countryside for the purposes of relaxation and sport.

The DIMB Trail Rules

1. Only ride on tracks.
2. Don't leave tyre marks in the soil.
3. Always keep your mountainbike under control.
4. Show respect for other countryside users.
5. Show consideration for wildlife.
6. Plan ahead.

Canyon supports the DIMB because we are also passionate bikers and "PURE CYCLING" for us means the untarnished joy of cycling.

Learn more about the DIMB on the club's official website.

How are the weights of bikes and frames determined?

In cycle sport weight is a critical factor, therefore we indicate the weight of every frame and bike. For complete bikes the weights indicated are on the basis of frame size 58 for road bikes and frame size M for MTBs. In the case of frames weights are indicated on the basis of frame size S (mountainbikes) and size 50 (road bikes) and are in matt black without fittings such as headset or derailleur hanger (with MTBs without shocks). However, the products in a model series are subject to certain tolerances for a variety of reasons:

One important factor is the surface coating. Clear-varnished or anodised frames weigh significantly less than painted frames. Especially white frames weigh more than black ones due to the high demands when using white paint. The colour does not cover that well and this means that more layers of paint are required. The choice of colour alone can contribute to differences in weight of up to 100 grammes.

Due to the various frame sizes different amounts of material are required in the manufacturing process. This is why a larger frame weighs more than a smaller one. Depending on the model and design the difference in weight can be between 10 and 40 grammes.

Depending on the material and manufacturing process, there may be variations in the componentry used which is above all apparent on carbon frames. Differences in weight of up to +/- 40 grammes are possible. In addition, with complete bikes it's also the case that individual components are also subject to tolerances.

In some tests conducted by trade journals the weights are mathematically adjusted. This means that the magazines calculate the weight in real-terms and then apply it to a comparable level, for example by always using the same length of fork steerer as a basis, or by adjusting the weight of smaller frames upwards or the weight of larger frames downwards. The magazines have adopted this system in order to create greater transparency when comparing weight.
