Outstanding - test victory
Nimble, agile and extremely versatile, the 2013 reddot design award winner will continue its victory lap into the new model year as the quintessential all-mountain full suspension 29er. One of the most striking features of this frame is the single-piece hydro-formed top tube, which gives the bike its distinct, flowing appearance while guaranteeing robustness and reliability. The state-of-the-art design exploits all the best properties of aluminium, resulting in a frame that weighs just 2650g. Internal cable routing perfectly complements the overall fluidity of this design.
The tapered headtube provides maximum stiffness and increased steering precision, while a balanced stack-to-reach ratio allows you to achieve a sporty, yet comfortable position on the bike. Geometry, gear ratios and componentry have all been selected for optimal performance with 29” wheels with the 110mm travel is also amplified by the larger wheel diameter. Further innovations include pre-stressed, filled angle bearings on the rocker and main pivot for extra durability, and anti-squat kinematics and an X12 Thru-Axle system for improved handling performance. With rapid acceleration and superb stability, the nerve AL 29 is the ideal tool for enthusiasts who ride for hours on end.
The most prominent feature of the modern alloy frame is the one-piece top tube. Thanks to the most modern hydroforming method no gusset is required on the connection to the seat tube. This avoids a further weld seam and a greater reliability and durability is achieved.
Steering precision is one of the most important parameters for ride features. Thanks to the Tapered Steerer the package space for the fork shaft and the bottom headset. It also allows conical fork shafts to be fitted which give a more direct feel at the front during braking and steering.
The use of preloaded angular contact bearings in the main bearing and rocker eliminates play and achieves optimum levels of stiffness. In addition, all bearings are fitted with double seals. This effectively repels dirt and the bearings therefore have a longer service life and deliver a much improved response.
The large 29 inch wheels require longer chain stays therefore the use of a modern X12 thru axle is a decisive factor. This guarantees the rider precise and safe handling in every situation.
