Canyon goes Cross! An absolute reference for aluminium frames, the Ultimate AL has banished carbon competitors to lower-ranking places in numerous tests (“Test winner”, TOUR 05/13). The new member of the family, Inflite AL, carries these successful genes and provides all the features that make a first-class cyclocross bike. The high quality aluminium frame weighs in at a lean 1480 grammes yet is extremely robust. The light, slim Maximus Seattube and Pressfit bottom bracket bearing guarantee optimum rigidity values in the bottom bracket area, and thus efficient sprint acceleration. A radical new design is the One One Four SL Disc Fork with tapered steerer tube and Postmount disc brakes.
The fork offers precision steering and the ideal compromise between rigidity and comfort. Together with the VCLS Post 2.0 leaf spring seat post, it ensures fantastic comfort levels. Best performance even over the most difficult terrain: the wide connection of the narrow chainstays provides ample tyre clearance and prevents dirt build-up, as do the gear cables neatly contained in the downtube. The excellent braking power and high stability of the 160 mm disc brakes can be relied on in any situation. Winter breaks are a thing of the past – with the Inflite AL, the cyclocross season is 365 days a year.
The carbon disc fork on the Inflite AL with tapered steerer, disc brake mount and greater tyre clearance is completely new and innovative design. The high-end and precise carbon fork with alloy drop-outs is an optimum compromise between stiffness and comfort for use in cyclo-cross.
The sophisticated and lightweight seat stays improve the damping characteristics of the frame and at the same time maintain high levels of lateral stiffness. The rider is not irritated by shocks from the ground and doesn’t have to expend so much muscle power to compensate for vibrations filtering through the frame. A further feature of the VCLS stays is the patented asymmetric design, which on the one hand delivers maximum power when the brakes are applied and on the other hand is considerably lighter.
The third generation Maximus Seattube is somewhat slimmer compared to last year’s model. The cross section of the lower part of the seat tube was slightly reduced due to the higher levels of stiffness on the Press-Fit bottom bracket achieved by its wide contact surface to the chain stays. The seat tube therefore now also makes an even more significant contribution to the vertical comfort of the entire rear triangle.
In order to achieve the best possible combination of durability, low weight and stiffness the Inflite AL frame is made from premium alloy. The characteristics of this premium material guarantee the stability of the new frame. One special feature of the new cross bike is the somewhat flatter top tube as it merges with the seat tube. This allows the bike to sit very neatly on the rider’s shoulder during carrying sections.
