A hardtail for less than 1000 Euro - and nevertheless top quality? The March 2010 edition of Bike wanted to see for itself. Canyon entered the best-seller Grand Canyon AL 6.0 into the race and impressed above all racers with the exceptional all round package.
It was above all the frame developed in Koblenz which impressed the testers: Even in the budget price range, with the Grand Canyon the customer doesn't just get palmed off with a run-of-the-mill frame. Anodised surfaces, neat weld seams, internally-routed cables and all that at a weight of just 1507 grammes. The bike also secured its place in the sun in the downhill category with the lightest frame in the field and the best fork of the all the test bikes - the Rock Shox Reba SL. At the same time the editors praised the bike's power-driven saddle position. This bike is in its element "when racing and on competitive tours".
The editors also come to the conclusion that the Canyon frame equipped with internally-routed cables really stood out from the crowd. „An immaculate appearance is created with the harmonious equipment and the great attention to detail (protective transfer under the down tube and Neoprene-protection on the chain stay). The geometry fits like a glove and the well-struck compromise of wide handlebars whilst still maintaining the lower front wheel means that this bike is something for racers right through to fun-seeking trail bandits! Just the bike for every situation!"
Verdict: The bike with the most elaborate and beautiful frame in the test and perfect ride characteristics to boot.
