Bikefreak tested 9 full suspension bikes costing around the 3000€ mark, the Canyon Nerve XC 9.0 SL being among them. The undisputed winner in terms of equipment and weight in the test was the Canyon. In these two areas the Nerve was simply head and shoulders above the other bikes. The list of components is very impressive with the outstanding FOX F120 RLC FIT fork, the RP23 shock, DT XR1450 wheels, a full XTR groupset and superb Formula R1 brakes. All this weighs in at just 10.9kg. This is just out of this world for a bike with 120mm of travel. It’s a dream to ride the Canyon Nerve XC9.0SL as it is a true competition bike which incidentally also has 120 mm of travel. When sprinting uphill the bike can mix it with the lightest hardtails on the market. The FOX RP23 shock works perfectly and your effort is transferred so efficiently that the bike sticks to the most difficult trails like glue. Whether you’re riding uphill or downhill – this is a bike you can ride and not walk uphill with. The position on the bike is sporty and outstretched but thanks to the riser bar never uncomfortable. This bike flies down the single trails like an arrow. The XC 9.0 SL is one of the first choices for long and difficult rides. The bike is tailor-made for marathons or stage races lasting several days.
Verdict: All we can say is that the Canyon Nerve XC 9.0 SL is a super fast lightweight bike with top components at a great price.
