13 full suspension bikes took part in the test with 120mm of travel and in the 2000 - 2500 Euro price range. The clear winner on points was the Canyon Nerve XC 9.0. The bike scored 47 points in the uphill category, 98.75 in the downhill category and 26 in combined disciplines, which was the best result in all these 3 categories. The bike was thus able to put daylight between itself and the rest of the test field.
The test was also a very important one because this time the editors of the magazine Bike selected bikes from the coveted 120 mm category and most popular price range for full suspension bikes. The bikes were therefore all potential best sellers like the Canyon Nerve XC 9.0.
The first thing that caught the eye was the premium equipment on the Nerve. "Canyon goes one better with complete X0 group set and carbon seat post", was the judgement of the testers on the Canyon's equipment, which stands out from the remainder of the test field."
The entire bike weighs in at just 11.75kg thanks to the "combination of an optically unique and cleanly manufactured frame and therefore accelerates with ease. In addition, the lowered front end makes the Nerve ideal for marathons. This is supported by the stiff rear triangle, which manages completely without a platform." These were all points noted by the testers in their reports. The Anti-Squat-Kinematic fulfilled its purpose and made effective use of the chain tension. This also explains why the bike is right up there with the best in terms of suspension efficiency and delivers outstanding performance on all three chain rings.
Verdict: Sporty tourer with an excellent range of equipment and low weight. A superb overall package.
