"The new Ultimate CF SLX has a really tough act to follow since its predecessor has already set benchmarks in so many tests. However the newcomer fulfils all the expectations placed upon it and even goes one better. The 1183g light frame is one of the lightest on the market - and all this without any compromises in the area of ride stability. What is even more impressive is just how well the suspension filters out vibrations. The special tube cross-sections coupled with the addition of vibration cushioning basalt fibres on the rear triangle and fork as well as the ingenious VCLS Post 2.0 parallelogram seat post deliver a highly effective ensemble, which sets this bike apart from the much of the competition.
Incidentally there is no other manufacturer who offers a frame of similar quality for such an economical price. In terms of appearance [...] the frame is state-of-the-art with its fully integrated cables and Press-Fit bottom bracket and comes across as simple and yet elegant. The frame's geometry arouses interest as the relationship between frame height and length is close to identical in all frame sizes. The premium range of equipment is one further argument in favour of this bike [...] which is offered with 11 different ranges of equipment.
Even the bottom of the range model is fitted with top equipment on the Ultimate CF SLX 7.0. Thanks to the outstanding frame this bike leaves the competition in its wake."
VERDICT: The excellent evaluation of the frameset catapults the Ultimate CF SLX right to the top of the pack although the Canyon is by far not the most expensive bike in the test and boasts a well thought out range of equipment alongside the pro frame.
