Maintenance of Carbon Parts
Clean carbon parts with a soft cloth and clean water, if required add a little washing-up liquid. Tough oil or grease stains may be removed by using petroleum based cleaners. Never use cleaners which contain acetone, trichloroethylene or methyl chloride. Nor should you use chemical cleaning materials on your bike’s paintwork. Use a soft cloth for cleaning Picture 1
To protect the paintwork and make it shine you may use wax. Polishes or paint cleaners contain solid particles which can damage the surface of the paint.
Carbon and extreme lightweight parts only have a limited service life. Therefore we recommend you replace the handlebar and stem at regular intervals. Replace the handlebar and stem every 3 years or after 15000km, even if they have not been involved in a crash.
Check regularly (for example when cleaning your bike) that the carbon parts do not display any cracks, dents or discolorations. If your cleaning cloth catches somewhere, you’ll need to inspect that area even more closely. Do not use your bike if you discover that the part is damaged.
Maintenance of carbon parts and frames:
Avoid greasing any carbon parts. The grease stays on the surface, thereby reducing the clamping effect within the torque tolerances. The result of this may be that the greased carbon part can never be safely clamped again!
