Most Cross-Country riders know this all too well: In a crash the handle bar hits the top tube hard. The result: An aluminium frame is quickly dented whilst a carbon frame does not show any signs of impact – but still the frame might be damaged. The only thing that can prevent contact of the handle bar with the top tube is a system just like the Impact Protection Unit developed by Canyon.
End stops in this specific head set limit the handlebar's maximum steering lock angle in such a way that it is impossible for it to hit the top tube – but the angle is still big enough so that the full steering lock is available even on tricky trails.

The double walled hollow bottom bracket shell continues exactly where other modern cranks stop: extraordinary stiffness at a very low weight. But how exactly is this done? By increasing the diameter. That's why the latest generation of cranks offer a measurably improved power transmission compared to the predecessors of just a few years ago. The hollow built crank arms allow an enhanced diameter at a reduced total weight. This is why Canyon is moving forward with the double walled hollow bottom bracket shells. This design allows improved stiffness at a very low weight. The cross sectional area increases – similar to the above mentioned crank arms – and thus the stiffness in the bottom bracket area which is essential during accelerations is improved. Furthermore, the bottom bracket offers a larger supporting surface for the patented Maximus Seattube thanks to its wider design.
