Slipping Seatpost

You can prevent a seat post from slipping by following a few simple steps:

1. Check that the seat post is the correct size for the seat tube of the particular bike you are using. The diameter of the seat post is normally on the tube marked at the bottom the tube, e.g. 31.6mm - 287mm. The first figure indicates the diameter of the seat post which should be used . Picture 1 In this particular case the seat post needs to be changed.

2. When using a seat post or frame made of carbon ensure that there is no grease on either surface. If grease is present thouroughly clean both the post and seat tube. Once both surfaces are completely grease free apply carbon assembly paste to the seat post and reassemble.

3. Finally check that the seat clamp is tightened to the correct torque setting. For Canyon seatclamps we recommend using 3-5Nm with the maximum possible torque is 7Nm. Canyon recommends to use the lowest setting without slipping or twisting of the post.

Ensure that all bolts and screws are tightened to the correct torque. The correct torque is indicated on the component itself, in the bike manual provided with your new bike, or here in the Technical Support Center.

Do not cycle with the seat post inserted too far or pulled too far out. The maximum figures are printed on the seat post. Please note the tightening torque for the seat clamp.
