Nerve AL 9.9 SL
Outstanding - test victory

MountainBike, 04/13 (model 2013)

  • Excellent equipment
  • Extremely versatile
  • Light, agile and nippy
  • Superb shock absorption from the rear triangle

Grand Voyage - Mountain BIKE magazine tested 12 29er full suspension tourers in the 3000 Euro price category. The new Canyon AL 29 9.9 SL celebrated a dream debut by scooping the overall test victory!

Canyon proudly unveiled its 26 inch carbon full suspension tourer the Nerve CF in 2013. It went almost unnoticed that with the Nerve AL 29 yet another dream bike for both touring and marathon fans had been created. Whereas with the Nerve CF Canyon trusts in carbon, in the case of the Nerve AL 29 it is alloy which forms the basis of the premium frame with 110mm of compression. Canyon typically polishes off the bike with a premium range of equipment.

The rider takes up a very central and well balanced position on the 29er. The lightest bike in the test moves forward with explosive power and reaches the tops of the climbs with lightening speed thanks to the lightweight wheels. Thanks to the remote on the handlebar the rider also has full control over the suspension at the rear. On twisting routes the bike is lively and the well balanced geometry guarantees maximum ride fun. Overall the suspension impresses with a very high level of comfort, great shock absorption as well as surprising reserves because the rider doesn't notice that a mere 110mm of suspension travel are at work here. The new Canyon delivers the widest range of applications whilst being as nimble as a 26er and at the same time sturdy. Test victory.

Verdict: A dream debut! The Nerve displays the character of a nippy and sturdy trail bandit whilst at the same time being a lightweight that's suitable for marathons.
