On 19.05.2013 French mountain biking superstar Fabien Barel booked his place in the history books by winning the first ever round of the Enduro World Series at Punta Ala, Italy. Two other top ten performances by Ines Thoma and Joe Barnes also secured the top spot in the team ranking for the Canyon Factory Enduro Team on what was a truly historic day for enduro.
The Koblenz based works team is a force to be reckoned with both on and off the racetrack competing in events worldwide in the Enduro World Series, the Sprecialized-SRAM Enduro Series, as well as standalone contests such as Megavalanche, Trans Provence and Enduro Roc d’Azur. All four outstanding riders, Fabien Barel, Joe Barnes, Ines Thoma and new recruit Ludo May, complement each other perfectly. In fact, they often seem more like a family than a professional racing team. Therein lies the secret to their success. Alongside the pressure and challenges of attaining top ten places and the intense concentration required whilst competing, enduro would not be enduro without the laidback atmosphere and the lifestyle that surrounds the races. Travelling together strengthens the bonds between the team further, especially when so much time is spent on the road and in remote regions around the world.

In order to keep apace at the elite level of enduro, both the riders out on the trail and designers at the drawing board work tirelessly together to gain every second of advantage. This unique partnership serves one purpose: to ensure that the materials we produce meet the requirements of the best mountain bikers in the world so that we can make our bikes even better.

The results speak for themselves: 2nd in the Specialized-SRAM Enduro Series women’s ranking, unofficial European champion, 3 riders in the top ten of the 2013 EWS overall individual ranking and 3rd in the overall team ranking as well as a whole host of other achievements.

The team returns highly motivated for the 2014 season ahead and is ready to line up at the start of the world’s biggest races – This is Enduro!

Canyon Factory Enduro Team

Fabien Barel

Fabien Barel

French mountain biking superstar, triple Downhill World Champion and qualified engineer – Fabien is a jack of all trades. The friendly 33 year-old Frenchman is a natural leader and sets the bar for the rest of the team through his absolute professionalism.
His meticulous preparation, passion, competitive spirit and constant search for perfection have made Fabien into the downhill legend that he is. Throughout 2013 he comprehensively proved that he is still one of the fastest riders in the world. While piloting his Strive AL he snapped up four podium spots on third place in the overall ranking in the Enduro World Series. He also rode his Spectral AL to third place at the 2013 Trans Provence.

Joe Barnes

Joe Barnes

Without Joe the Canyon Factory Enduro Team simply would not be the same. The zany Scot and self-appointed “Top Chief” made a huge impact on the 2013 Enduro World Series.
Wherever the “Dudes of Hazzard” founder pops up, you can be sure that something will be going down. With consistent top ten performances throughout 2013, Joe will get stuck right in as a one of the major contenders in the 2014 EWS.

Ines Thoma

Ines Thoma

Universally regarded as Germany’s fastest enduro rider, Ines perfectly embodies our motto, “strive for the podium” weekend in, weekend out.
Her past achievements, above all those from the previous season, speak for themselves: 4th Overall in the Enduro World Series, 1st at Megavalanche La Réunion and unofficial European Champion are but a few of her accomplishments. This tough and vivacious Bavarian will be aiming high in 2014, we cannot wait to see what she pulls off!

Ludo May

Ludo May

The Canyon Factory Enduro Team roster is completed by new arrival Ludo May. The 24 year-old Swiss stands out not only due to his impressive hair and rock star attitude, but also because of his rapid racing style, which means the competition should get a good view of the back of our jerseys over the coming year.
Ludo has had success on the gravity scene for a number of years now, predominantly in downhill, and brings with him a skillset that every out-and-out racer must possess. This year he has a clear aim and wants to break into the top ten in the Enduro World Series, something that this ambitious trail ripper will be sure to achieve, as speed when on the limit is what he is made for.
