Test victory! In the test of 3000 Euro touring bikes (Mountain bike magazine 3/11) the Nerve XC 9.0 SL embarrassed its rivals with its excellent all-round ride characteristics. A hard act to follow, but the XC 8.0 did so superbly with its premium platform. The aluminium frame is beautifully manufactured, super stiff and not too heavy. Fox also chips in with premium suspension technologies such as FIT and the boost valve. The XT transmission, sturdy Avid brakes and agile DT wheels combine with the remaining elements to produce a bike that weighs in at just 11.9kgs - that's the lightest in the test and just 1kg heavier than the SL. This allows the Nerve to whizz along at speed and with fleet of foot. The bike also produces fierce pedal power with the sporty seat and pedaling position and also climbs and sprints with true verve. The momentum gained on the climbs is then complemented by the efficient rear triangle, which guarantees superb traction and masters the entire range of challenges on the downhill. The Canyon suspension ensemble happily and selectively soaks up the shocks for the rider on the descent and all this is rounded off by the smooth and agile handling.
Verdict: A textbook touring bike! Handling, weight, stiffness, parts, workmanship and the suspension are worthy of nothing but praise. All things considered a clear test winner.
