Scotland-bound with the Canyon Sender

The World Cup debut of the Sender and the Canyon Factory Downhill Team in Lourdes, France offered a glimpse into what the bike and its riders are capable of, but it also left the downhill world with a serious cliff-hanger.

Mark Wallace flew down the hill with 18 more riders to go and smashed the still-dry course to land on the second spot on the podium. Only a few runs later, the deluge that would define the race stormed in and rendered the runs of the top 15 riders moot. One after another, the world’s best floundered in the nearly unrideable conditions. Troy Brosnan’s much anticipated race found him seeded in seventh, but ultimately rolling down the hill in 68th. Clearly disappointed with his run, but ecstatic for his teammate’s.

The race raised more questions than it answered and attention quickly turned to Fort William. In a surprise turn of events, Mark will ride the Scottish course with a huge target on his back while Troy will be looking to fight his way onto a podium that he is no stranger to.

Known as one of the longest and toughest tracks on the World Cup circuit, Troy and Mark will have to rely on extreme levels of fitness and toughness to make it to the top. Fortunately, both have been training hard with multiple World Champion Fabien Barel in the off-season and are ready for anything.

What to watch for:

Troy won here in 2014 and was looking good in his qualifying run in Lourdes. We’ll never know exactly how well he could have placed, but he will certainly be expecting to podium this weekend.

Mark leaves the first World Cup 2nd in the overall rankings, and having notched his first WC podium finish, should be feeling confident. Turning 22 just days before the race, the sky is the limit for what this young rider could do.

Ruaridh is still coming back from a shoulder injury, but will be providing insight and commentary about his home course all weekend at @canyon_factoryracing
