Steve Chainel quit the peloton to return to cross.

27-10-2017, CANYON Introducing Steve Chainel

First Love is True Love

What happens after life in the peloton for the retired professional cyclist? After seven years competing with all the top French teams on the road, Steve Chainel returned to his first love: racing cyclocross.

Steve's reputation as a cobbled Classics specialist was born out of his commitment to cross. While other pros would back off over the off-season before slowly building for the year ahead, Steve would be in full flight competing in World Cups and Superprestige series throughout winter and then hold his form through to the cobbles of spring. The technical and demanding nature of the cobbles with their power on, power off character reflect the skillset required on the cross course, where lung-bursting anaerobic efforts and exceptional bike handling skills are essential.

After retiring from the road, Steve started a new project, Team Chazal-Canyon. The team's aim is to develop young French talent into the stars of the future. But Steve isn't just in the game to watch from behind the barriers, he still competes at the very top level aboard the new Inflite CF SLX, racking up some impressive results in the process.

With the peak of the cross season still ahead, we'll be keeping up with Steve and his progress throughout!
