30-03-2015, CANYON First race, first victory for Jan Frodeno on the Speedmax CF
For a professional triathlete going into a new season is like pushing the reset button. A clean slate. Starting from zero. Anything can happen. Having a training crash and sustaining cracked ribs that rule you out of your first race is not how anyone wants to get the ball rolling. Nevertheless, Jan Frodeno has bounced back with style to win Ironman 70.3 California Oceanside in his first competitive outing for Canyon on the Speedmax CF.
Still a relative newcomer to the world of long-distance triathlon in only his second season, Frodeno hung with the leaders in the 1.9 km swim and 90 km bike leg, saving his best till last by upping the pace in the half marathon. The result? An impressive overall time of 3:47:08 and over a minute and a half’s advantage over his nearest challenger.
Frodo’s performance wasn’t the only thing that caught the eye in Oceanside, his new custom Speedmax CF also had its fair share of admirers. With gold accents worthy of an Olympic champion, a prototype version of Sram’s upcoming wireless electronic groupset and a neat new integrated aero drinking system up front, it’s easy to see why Jan’s bikes was one of the stars of the show.
Frodeno now leads the 2015 Pro Men Ironman Rankings, putting him in pole position for Kona qualification. October may seem a long way off, but the race for the World Championship title has already begun…
