11-09-2018, CANYON UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

GLORY IN THE ALPS

Ideal weather, a picture-perfect setting and 24,000 excited spectators, on day four of the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, the conditions for the Men’s Cross-Country Final could not have been better.

On the first climb of the fourth lap, former Cyclocross World Champion Mathieu van der Poel made his move to catch race leaders Schurter and Kerschbaumer. While he fell short, the young, multi-discipline rider was able to pilot his Canyon Lux to the bronze medal in his first-ever appearance at the championships.

On Sunday, the hills came alive with the sounds of cowbells and chainsaws announcing the start of the Downhill Championships. After wet and cold conditions during the qualifying races, the Lenzerheide track was nothing but sunshine for the final. Among the juniors, Australia’s Kye A´Hern of Canyon Factory Racing rode his Sender CF to the silver medal, while his compatriot Troy Brosnan finished an uncharacteristic ninth in the Elite Men’s category. The team is now taking a well-deserved, albeit short break before starting training for the 2019 season.
