Cities are changing. New and exciting visions of urban spaces are being laid out, but for real transformation to occur there needs to be a catalyst – a driving force that ensures the next few decades result in more than just a few minor tweaks. For the metropolis of the future to thrive, there must be a meaningful push to improve the daily life of urban dwellers the world over.

As one of the bike industry’s leading innovators and the number one direct-to-consumer brand in the world, Canyon has already had a substantial impact on the world of cycling. With that reputation comes a responsibility to take risks and lead the way on urban mobility. Canyon has an idea for where the future of urban transit is headed and believe that they can make it better. That’s why they’re not just taking one step towards the future – they’re making a leap.

On Tuesday September 1, 2020, Canyon will present the Commuter:ON and Precede:ON, two new and innovative e-bikes that are sure to have an immediate impact on how people move around the city. Expanding upon the award-winning Commuter series, the Commuter:ON relies on an elegantly integrated Fazua Evation drive system to make it a lightweight and modern e-bike with exceptional handling; a simple and sustainable vision for short-distance commuting. For the Precede:ON, Canyon’s designers and engineers made maximum functionality, everyday usability and state-of-the-art design their top priorities.

The aluminium Commuter:ON will be available in three colours and two different frame types: The Commuter:ON 7 and Commuter:ON 7 WMN. Despite its list of city-ready features like built-in lights, fenders and a sturdy rear rack, the bike is still deceptively lightweight. At a mere 17.2 kg in size M, the low weight guarantees the bike can be easily taken on public transit or carried upstairs to an apartment.

The Precede:ON is the bike of the future. Thanks to its striking carbon frame, the Precede has already won the 2021 German Design Award, but the aesthetic of the bike only scratches the surface. The powerful Bosch motor and battery are seamlessly incorporated into the frame and the cockpit follows suit. With no visible cables or wires, the built-in Bosch Kiox display and specially integrated brake levers – designed in collaboration with TRP – make the unified handlebar and stem the first of their kind. A bright Supernova light system, strong aluminium fenders, a kickstand and a robust rear rack with the Ortlieb 3.1 quick lock system all come pre-installed on the bike. Optionally, the Precede:ON can also be equipped with a front rack as well as special baskets on the rear. Thanks to a Gates belt drive and a simple automatic shifting system, the Precede:ON 9 offers a truly care-free riding experience while making a strong argument that there’s no need for a car in the city. The Precede:ON comes in a standard frame design as well as a step-through version. It is available in two different models.

On September 1, 2020, Canyon will also present their Future Mobility Concept. The concept is not just a unique vision for the future of urban mobility, it lays the groundwork for the German brand’s path forward. The futuristic vehicle represents the potential expansion of Canyon’s new "City & Trekking" portfolio. In order to create better mobility for the world of tomorrow, Canyon wish to create bicycles and forward-thinking concepts that enable urban dwellers to seamlessly move between roads and bike infrastructure alike. Vehicles with space to transport children or larger luggage that also offer protection from the elements. Vehicles that are – above all else – sustainable, clean and future-oriented. That is what the Canyon Future Mobility Concept represents: A vision for the city of the future.
