Cleaning your mountain bike may seem like a mundane task, but there are essential details you should keep in mind to maintain optimal performance. How do you clean your mountain bike without causing any damage?

Why is a carbon hardtail the perfect bike for you?

Let’s take a look at the reasons a carbon hardtail is the perfect choice:

  • Carbon hardtails are very light. On the flat and especially on climbs, a light bike has a clear advantage. The steeper the climb, the bigger the advantage.
  • Carbon is extremely versatile during production. This allows engineers to design high efficient frames. Where increased stability is needed, the frame can be enhanced. Engineers can save material and thus weight in less stressed areas.
  • Carbon offers ideal stiffness. This means the force applied to the pedals and handlebars is converted efficiently. The high rigidity enables maximum propulsion for a mountain bike made of carbon.
  • Carbon is corrosion free and durable. Thus, the wear and maintenance of the mountain bike is low.

Carbon vs. aluminium hardtails

Our hardtail mountain bikes have a suspension fork at the front. The rear has no suspension and the frame is made of either carbon or aluminium.

Aluminium hardtails

Aluminium is a high-quality yet inexpensive material. It’s lighter than steel but slightly heavier than carbon. That’s why aluminium frames are not as efficient as the super light carbon setups. Aluminium has a great price to performance ratio and is therefore popular with beginners and hobby cyclists.

Carbon hardtails

Carbon hardtails are ideal for ambitious cross-country riders. Long climbs, steep ramps or difficult terrain, athletes will appreciate lightweight materials on a mountain bike. To put this into perspective: one kilogram of carbon can replace five kilograms of steel with the same stiffness.

Carbon is particularly suitable for competition due to the performance advantage. On the mountain, the tiniest weight difference can mean the difference between winning and losing. A hardtail mountain bike made of carbon that weighs less than 10 kg is a real asset uphill and over longer distances. If you lock your suspension fork at the right moment, you’ll make even faster progress on the trail. This advantages pays off particularly during cross-country marathon races.

27.5 inch or 29 inch wheels

Mountain bikes have a choice of wheel sizes which are best suited for different purposes. Many mountain bikes are equipped with 29 inch wheels, however that doesn’t mean 29 inch wheels are best for all riders. Depending on your body size and riding style, 27.5 inch wheels may be more suitable for your bike.

Advantages of 29 inch wheels

  • Mountain bikes with 29 inch wheels roll better over obstacles and are therefore smoother to ride.
  • They offer better traction which optimises your riding stability on rough terrain or downhill.
  • 29 inch wheels hold the speed for longer.

Advantages of 27.5 inch wheels

  • Mountain bikes with 27.5 inch wheels react faster to acceleration and changes of direction, which promotes a more playful style of riding.
  • Bikes with 27.5 inch wheels are easier to handle especially for smaller riders.
  • There is less risk of touching the rear wheel when your centre of gravity is shifted backwards.

For the perfect fit and best handling, we equip smaller frames with 27.5 inch wheels. From frame size M, setups with 29 inch wheels are more common.
