When you want to be sure that the bike you are buying has tried to think of everything you may need on your commute to work, then the first place to look is at the extras. Sure, any beater bike is going to have a frame, fork, wheels, and be able to roll well enough. But what the Commuter 4.0 offers in addition to these essentials will make you wonder how you ever lived without them. Perhaps most important for a commuter is to be sure you will be visible at all times. For that reason, the Commuter 4.0 uses a front hub PD-8 Hub Dynamo to connect through internal wiring to the Supernova E3 Pure light front lamp and the Supernova Tail Light 2 rear lamp, both of which have been cleverly integrated into the mud guards. They offer road legal lumen output so you’ll be able to see and be seen, and since they are dynamo light, you won’t have to worry about charging them or changing batteries. The Tubus Wingee Aluminium mudguards and the Tubus Wingee for Ortlieb QL luggage racks form the backbone of this bike’s practicality, so you can carry up to 16 kilos of luggage - 8 kg on either side - without having to resort to a backpack or trailer. The Shimano Alfine 8-speed shifters and the Nexus 8-speed internal hub in the rear will give you the sort of easy gear changes that will help you get through rush hour traffic without a hitch. Then the Continental CDS 1260 belt drive system, which offers a more durable, practically maintenance-free drivetrain, will help power the bike without risking greasing up your trouser leg. The sturdy alu DT Swiss XR331 rims are wrapped by the puncture resistant and supple 35mm Schwalbe G-ONE ALLROUND tires to provide a certain cushioning to your ride to work.
Whether you are rolling into work, or taking the bike to meet up with friends on a Saturday evening, the Commuter 4.0 will be sure to be able to get you through tight spots and dark sections of road.
