1985: Opening our first bike shop
It all started with a blue trailer, with Roman Arnold’s father importing bike parts and selling them while Roman was racing.
1996: The first-ever Canyon-branded mountain bike
Canyon launches its first mountain bike in 1996, signalling a shift from a retailer to manufacturer. This marks a significant milestone in Canyon’s evolution.
1996 – 2001
A born leader: from 80s crits to industry-defining business moves, Roman Arnold has always been at the cutting edge of the industry.
2001: Exclusive focus on Canyon bikes
Now exclusively selling Canyon-branded bikes across their complete portfolio, 2001 marked Canyon's arrival at the top table of international bike brands.
2002: Rebranding as Canyon
In late 2002, the company officially adopts the name Canyon, cementing its unique identity in the cycling industry.
2003: Online direct sales go live
In 2003, Canyon becomes the first bike brand to sell bikes online, directly to riders. The bold move changes the cycling world and sparks a period of remarkable growth.
2003 –2006
Some things never change: back in the 80s, Roman Arnold made it his personal mission to provide riders with the latest, greatest gear. 40 years on, and Canyon are carrying the torch for a new generation of riders.
2006: Canyon goes international
Canyon France become the first ever Canyon international partner. A further 15 markets were to follow, most recently Canyon USA in 2017.
2007: A new era in pro sports
Canyon make their first steps into WorldTour level team sponsorship with Unibet.com. Since then, a host of Grand Tour winners and World Champions have earnt their success aboard Canyon bikes.
2008: Global expansion
Canyon’s expansion transcends national borders, with the company selling more bikes outside of Germany than within, marking a shift toward global prominence.
2010: Fastest bike in the peloton is born
Canyon unveils the Aeroad--the first bike to prove that an aero bike can win at everything from hill climbs, to crits, to time trials. It's a game changer.
2015: Canyon becomes the triathlon leader
In 2015, Jan Frodeno piloted the Speedmax to the Ironman World Championship in Kona—the first of 8 World Championship titles accrued by the legendary tri bike.
2016: Canyon Factory goes live. A new era in pro sports
The new, state-of-the-art Canyon Factory opens near Koblenz, massively increasing output potential and underlining Canyon’s credentials as a true industry leader.
2023: A new home for Canyon
Canyon’s new Headquarters and Innovation Lab provide a world-class platform for the brand’s future ambitions to set the standard for innovation in cycling.
2024: Spectral is Trail Bike of the Year
Canyon's Spectral beats out the competition and wins Pinkbike's prestigious Trail Bike of the Year award.
2025: Canyon offers customizable bikes
Canyon debuts MyCanyon—a program that lets riders customize their new Aeroad’s color and key components. The program is expanding to include additional models.
