60 Seconds with Alex DowsetT

Time trial specialist and former hour record holder, Alex Dowsett has targeted this year's edition of the Tour of Britain which features a crucial time trial on his home roads in Essex. There, the Movistar Team rider will be looking to showcase his vast experience of the British TT scene.

Best roads to ride in the UK?
Dry ones! I like riding the Dengie Marshes in Essex it’s super flat and barren and the roads are really quiet. It’s just you and the bike.

What are your objectives at this year’s Tour of Britain?
To go out with a bang! It’s my last year with Movistar Team and I would like to finish the five years I've spent with them on a high.

What's the fastest speed you've ever achieved in a TT or a road race?
I remember going 54 mph (87 kph) on the Speedmax at nationals in 2015. On the Aeroad I’ve hit 73 mph (117 kph).

What are your favourite aspects of the Speedmax CF SLX?
Definitely the brakes – it responds like a road bike which is advantageous on technical courses, not many TT bikes can do that. It’s also obviously super fast, light and aero too!

Who will be cheering you on at the TT stage in your home county of Essex?
A lot of friends and family and my girlfriend is taking the day off work to come watch. The DCC (Ed. Alex's local cycling club) will be out in force too I’ve been told! They said they weren’t sure if they were going to write abusive signs or supportive signs though…
