06/11/2017, TRIATHLON Patrick Lange – Ironman World Champion

The New King of Kona

That time. Eight hours, one minute and forty seconds. To win the Ironman World Championship for a first time is one thing, to take two minutes off the course record in only your second start in the race is on another level. That feat is exactly what Patrick Lange achieved aboard the Speedmax CF SLX to become the new King of Kona.

ON FIRE

Away from geothermal pyrotechnics, white sands and pristine waters, Kona has a different side. The notorious Queen K highway rolls relentlessly through a baked and barren landscape. Blasted by winds straight off the ocean, heated by miles of lava fields radiating the searing power of the sun. Out here, there is nowhere to hide.

Great performances do not happen by chance. In the end, all we see is the race. What we don’t see are the months of planning and preparation, the countless days of pain and sacrifice.

After shocking the field with third place on his Kona debut last year, Patrick Lange lined up in 2017 as a genuine contender for the crown. What followed was a performance for the ages. Fast out of the water, in control on the bike, unbeatable on the marathon, Lange didn’t just win, he broke the coveted Kona course record in a race that will go down in history.

The Bike

Every top athlete is discerning when it comes to their equipment choices, especially when facing 112 miles on Queen K. Three years on from its Kona debut, the Speedmax CF SLX has cemented its reputation as the bike to beat.

Having a base setup that is absolutely dialled allows you to focus on what you can actually influence – your performance. The Speedmax CF SLX is the complete performance system, integrating storage and key components into the overall aerodynamic concept to create the fastest bike in the race.

RECORD BREAKER

Lange sheds the rookie title from last season to join a line of legends who have won this, the toughest of races. With his prime years as an endurance athlete still ahead of him, we look forward to what is yet to come. Congratulations, Patrick. Here’s to a bright future.

CONGRATULATIONS, PATRICK!
