Torque 7.0 Trailflow

Big Bike 06/2011

A versatile bike that's destined to be a big enduro and freerider - The Torque 7.0 Trailflow

The Torque is the range where Canyon paid the greatest attention to suspension travel. The frame design is “short” to improve maneuverability and this is coupled with efficient kinematic. The frame tube design gives the rider a feeling of stiffness. The top tube is rectangular and the down tube measuring 60mm in diameter is joined with a large headtube. This frame is surely going to set benchmarks in freeride.

This Canyon is equipped with ISCG drop outs in order to be able to fix a chain guide or a Hammerschmidt transmission as on the Trailflow. The rear triangle is stiff thanks to the size of the chain stay and also to the 12 mm axle. The suspension is thought to be the most efficient available and able to reduce squat to an absolute minimum. The junction between the seat stay and the chain stay is high-end. We also noticed further interesting details such as the rear drop out fixation […] or the Sag monitor on the rocker arm.

The Torque suspension comprises a Fox DHX-Air 5.0 shock and a Fox 36 Float FIT RC2 170 mm fork. As far as the transmission goes, one could hardly expect more on a big enduro bike than a Truvativ Hammerschmidt at the front and a Sram X9 at the rear. The brakes are well chosen with the Avid Elixir R 200mm and the bike is also fitted with Maxxis Ardent 2.4" tyres. This entire package weighs in at a mere 15.5kg and could without doubt embarrass some real enduro bikes.

In order to test this bike, the editors from Big Bike took this bike on a trail with 600m of uphill and with 1300m of downhill. The bike is efficient when you pedal and effectively reduces squat. This is a bike which allows the rider to clear any obstacle in every type of uphill terrain.

On the downhill, the bike is stable and corrects the majority of pilot errors thanks to the bike's frame geometry and range of equipment. The Torque 7.0 Trailflow is comfortable on technical trails and offers its pilot a superb level of protection. The bike sticks to the ground like glue during braking. During freeride the bike was able to clear any obstacles thanks to the height of the bottom bracket.

A very good bike destined for the alpine tour thanks to its superb pedaling qualities, comfort and stability.
