Torque FRX Rockzone

MBUK, 05/2013

An unchallenged test win for the Canyon Torque FRX Rockzone in MBUK magazines entry-level DH bikes test. The Canyon light weight and 185mm (7.3IN) travel setting makes it an ideal downhill bike.

The Canyon’s superior suspension was clearly apparent when we swung a leg over it. Sag set-up is simple – five minutes with a shock pump and we were hot to trot.
The Boxxer World Cup is one of our favourite forks, and doesn’t disappoint on the front of the Canyon. It has good usable range of compression and rebound damping settings, which cater for any rider.
Putting some hard cranks in on the pedals, the Canyon has a sense of urgency and is quick to be propelled forwards rather than have the suspension swallow any effort. The urgency is helped by its weight – at 16.5kg (36.4lb) it’s the lightest bike on test by nearly 2kg.
Its light weight isn’t just obvious when putting the power down. Getting the bike in the air is easy, and when you’re flying, moving the bike around is almost effortless – it feels more like a trail bike than a downhill sled, which does tend to encourage some crazy behaviour on jumps.

The Canyon offers value for money in a package that isn’t even closely-fought. The Torque is light and equipped with suspension that tops most people’s wishlists, as well as an all-round spec worthy of a bike twice the price.
