After the dust settles
Le Tour in Retrospect
If you want to appreciate something in its full scale then distance always helps. For three weeks in July, the Tour de France occupies centre stage in the cycling universe. Everything else simply revolves around it. Transfixed by stage previews in the mornings, captivated by fallout from the action in the evenings, and in the middle, entranced by the race itself. Fans, just like the racers, slip into an annual routine from the moment the first wheel rolls down the prologue start ramp to the final sprint on the Champs-Élysées.
