The 2014 cobbled classics come to a spectacular climax this Sunday with the 112th edition of Paris-Roubaix and Canyon will be there to bring you exclusive behind-the-scenes action on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
Paris-Roubaix arguably sits at the very summit of one-day racing. Its alternative names give an idea the reputation it holds: by some it is revered as “The Queen of the Classics”, others more ominously label it, “The Hell of the North”.
The formula for this epic has barely changed over the past 111 editions as the riders tackle the 260km route between the outskirts of Paris and the historic outdoor Velodrome in Roubaix. The twist comes in the form of 51 km of bone-rattling cobble sectors, or pavé as they are known in France. If conditions are dry, the riders have to contend with suffocating clouds of dust thrown up by the cobbles. In the wet, the race descends into a treacherous mud bath. Whatever the weather, Sunday is guaranteed to be a war of attrition.
Whilst providing a true test of any rider, there is quite simply no other race in the world as demanding on bikes and other equipment as Paris-Roubaix. Mechanical failures triggered by the harshness of the cobblestones in northern France often shape to outcome of the race.
This weekend, our two UCI ProTeams, Katusha and Movistar Team, will take to the cobbles aboard the Ultimate CF SLX, complete with innovative VCLS technology to take the sting out of the pavé.
Katusha go into Sunday’s race backing two of the overall favourites, Alexander Kristoff of Norway and Italian Luca Paolini, both of whom have shone in the Classics so far this year. Meanwhile, Movistar Team’s Fran Ventoso will be back in action following the crash that took him out of contention at Gent-Wevelgem two weeks ago.
To provide you with insights into how our UCI ProTeams work and prepare for a race as demanding as Paris-Roubaix, Canyon will be reporting live from the ground, giving you a unique look behind the scenes of this Monument of cycling.
