About Canyon

How Canyon began

It started with a boy, his father, and a bright blue trailer.

Roman Arnold's father imported Italian bike parts and sold them from his trailer on the sidelines of Roman's races.

After a difficult loss and decades of hard work later, we, Canyon, develop, design, assemble, and ship our very own high-quality bikes across the globe.

About Canyon

Every success story has a humble beginning. And Canyon’s is no different.

As well as selling bike parts, Roman Arnold’s father proudly cheered for his son at the sidelines of his road races. While Roman competed, his father was going for gold, too: he successfully grew his sideline-sales into a mail-order business for pro cyclists.

But when Roman lost his father at the age of 18, he and his younger brother Franc suddenly held the reins of the trailer.

The brothers took this opportunity and founded Radsport Arnold. And in 1985, they opened their first bike shop in the city centre of Koblenz, Germany.

In the 90s, everything was coming to life. Their business evolved from a retailer into a manufacturer. The very first Canyon-branded mountainbike hit the market in 1996.

In 2002, Radsport Arnold was renamed to what we’re internationally recognised as today: Canyon. A year later in 2003, we were selling bikes to customers online directly, kickstarting a period of enormous growth that continues to this day.

And we’re still expanding worldwide, internationally recognised under the guiding expertise of over 1,400 employees.

Everyone gets their calling. It takes bravery, grit, and boldness to follow it.
