Nerve AL+ 9.0

MountainBike, 03/13

All you need is Fun! Mega fun uphill and safe downhill - all mountain bikes are the big all-rounders. MountainBIKE gave a clear verdict: Despite the very high standard of the competition the Nerve AL+ 9.0 scooped the test victory in outstanding fashion!

Not only the AL+ tag in the name of the current Canyon is new. For 2013 the Koblenz based manufacturer has added 10mm of travel to the rear triangle as well as some other clever little innovations. Further innovative details that make the Nerve AL+ stand out from the crowd include an X-12 thru-axle that delivers additional stiffness, a slightly updated frame geometry and an adjustable seatpost whose remote cable is elegantly routed through the frame.

All this is complemented by the well thought out, premium equipment, which truly makes the AL+ "ready to rumble". Thanks to the 75° steep seat angle, which is new on the 2013 model, the rider sits in a central and efficient pedaling position on the bike. Thus the lightweight all-mountain bike delivers brisk acceleration uphill; the rear triangle is as steady as a rock and yet still delivers superb levels of traction. The long 90mm stem also guarantees more pressure down on the front wheel.

On the trail the new Nerve really creates a sensation. The perfectly balanced geometry and the 425mm chain stays allow the Nerve to whizz through the terrain and deliver an extremely high standard of precision. The rear triangle responds inconspicuously well to shocks and makes generous use of the available travel.

Verdict: Alongside the innumerable frame highlights the new all-rounder from Canyon is a perfect symbiosis of uphill fun and downhill safety.
