Strive AL 9.0 SL

Bikesport 5-6/13

Downhill oriented all-mountain bikes was what the magazine Bikesport called this category and where it tested seven powerful models with up to 160mm of travel. The Canyon Strive AL 9.0 SL also took part in the test and received glowing reviews.

We had very high expectations of the 2013 Strive – not least because the equipment was in the premium range. And we weren't disappointed. In the test camp the bike was the most coveted model. The premium range of equipment is so typical of Canyon. FOX Talas 34 fork, FOX Float CTD shock, 26 inch Crossmax SX wheels from Mavic, RockShox Reverb Stealth seat post or Shimano's XTR components deliver everything a rider's heart desires. The Strive's speciality is the twisting trails downhill, which the bike manages superbly. The suspension delivers a lively response and copes admirably with fast and substantial shocks. Even at high speeds the bike toes the line without even the slightest quibble. The 36 and 24 tooth chain rings at the front deliver superb gear ratios and fit to the Strive perfectly. In addition, the crankset is fitted with a bashguard.

Verdict: The Strive AL 9.0 SL hits the trails with superb equipment and demonstrates its responsiveness and great agility. Therefore it is also great for lighter touring use. Only when it is ridden to the limit does the bike require a skilled hand.
