Highlights

If you are considering purchasing a bike in a five-figure price range, you must certainly be serious not only about performance, but style and distinctiveness. With the Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 SL, Canyon has created a high-performance bike that will hopefully be used not only to carry certain professional riders to great victories, but also to give us ordinary cyclists the chance to experience the sort of tour de force bike that could win a Tour de France.

Though the frame for the Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 SL is exactly the same as the LTD version, there are some important differences to the build to keep in mind. The carbon fibre frame is made from aerospace grade, pitch-based carbon, which gives it an astounding mix of lightweight and rigid durability, just like the LTD build of this frame. By starting with a lighter, stronger carbon fibre, we are able to use a completely new layup for the frame, enhancing the stiffness levels, accommodating the need for comfort, while keeping it super light, and durable. This is a bike to be used every day, any weather. And don’t expect it to be some bone shaking ride just because it is so stiff and responsive. We’ve incorporated the S14 VCLS 2.0 CF seatpost with the spring leaf design into the build, so that now even the racing-est of racing bikes we make will have the rear-end comfort of our long distance, sportif oriented Endurace bikes. To compliment the spring in the seatpost, the super-light Fizik Antares 00 with its carbon shell and carbon braided rails will provide the perfect perch since it occupies that middle ground between super flexible and ultra-inflexible in the Fizik Spine Concept philosophy. Where this bike starts to differ from the LTD build is in the stem/handlebar interface. In this case we have decided to use the H18 Ergo CF handlebars and pair them with the V13 stem. Though this combination still provides a face to the wind that is optimized to reduce airflow, most importantly it gives anyone who perhaps falls in between the sizes of the H36 Aero Cockpit CF to choose a fit more freely.

In an attempt to keep the overall weight of the bike down while still choosing equipment robust enough for everyday riding, Canyon has put together a pretty bespoke combination of components. Don’t think of this as all eye candy. Everything on the bike has a utility first, and design goal second. For instance, the THM-Carbones Fibula brakes with Tune brake shoes provide pristine, powerful braking performance while weighing less than an iPhone. The shifting duties fall to SRAM Red 11-speed groupset. With a lighter rear derailleur than the e-Tap, you’ll be saving a few more grams that will add to this bike’s sub-5 kilo élan. For the crank, the Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 SL uses the THM-Carbones Clavicula sine exceptione. The full carbon crank with an integrated carbon axle comes with 50-34 chainrings, which along with the 11-25 SRAM cassette in the back will get you over all sorts of climbs, irrespective of gradient.

Any enthusiasm about the spec the SL receives must in the end revolve around the fact that it comes with the Lightweight Meilenstein Obermayer Tubular wheels, the gold standard in sexy, aero wheelsets. Ceramic Speed bearings, durability in spite of the low spoke count, and an optimized carbon braking track make these the most desired pair of wheels on the market. No wheelset combines lightweight, aero durability with this level of acceleration and responsiveness. They really are the perfect package.

The Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 SL gives you the chance to buy not only one of the lightest bikes on the market, but one of the most durable and comfortable as well.

BIKE CLASSIFICATION: Bikes in this category are designated for use on paved surfaces where the wheels remain in constant contact with the ground. This usually includes road bikes with dropped or flat handlebars, triathlon and time trial bikes. Maximum load including rider and luggage must not exceed 120 kg. This weight limit may be further reduced according to the limits set by individual component manufacturers.
