The Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii are finally back after a 2 year hiatus! We’re bringing the party with us and you’re invited. As a race-winning bike, we’ll be showcasing the Canyon Speedmax as well as hosting many events you can take part in throughout the week.

Some of our Canyon athletes will be joining us on The Big Island. Sarah Crowley will be aiming for the top spot after a taste of the podium in 2019 with her bronze medal. Laura Philipp came fourth on debut in 2019 meaning she’s one of the favourites this year. She will be aiming to build on her 2022 European Champion title as she takes to the start line. “This season has had its ups and downs but I’m going to Hawaii knowing I’ve given my all in training,” she said. “I already have so much to be proud of this year and I’m really looking forward to seeing what I’m capable of in this race.”

All eyes will be on Patrick Lange and Lionel Sanders in the pro men’s field. As a two-time Hawaii champion and the first athlete to break the 8 hour mark in Kona, Lange is sure to set the course alight this year. Similarly, Sanders has never been more motivated for Kona. He is setting his sights on the podium after a second place finish back in 2017 and a more recent second place at the World Championships in Utah. Can he climb on to the top step in Kona?

Danish rider Daniel Baekkegard and New Zealander Kyle Smith are lining up in Kona this year. Baekkegard currently sits 6th in the men’s PTO World Rankings indicating his fitness is certainly there. Kona debutant Smith has spent a large chunk of the year training alongside Jan Frodeno in Girona and Andorra – what secret training tips have the two shared, we wonder? As the next generation in triathlon, they’ll be the ones to watch as they make their mark on the race.

Jan Frodeno and the Lava Java takeover

Unfortunately, the defending champion will not toe the line in Kailua-Kona this year. However, Jan Frodeno, who set a new course record in 2019 that many are describing as the best performance ever seen in long-distance triathlon, will be in Kona.

"Unfortunately, I won't be on the start line myself, but I'm really looking forward to being in Kona and feeling the Kona vibe again after three years. And of course, that includes a visit to the most famous triathlon venue in Kona."

This year we will be taking over the famous Lava Java for the duration of the race week and it’s not to be missed.

We’ve switched up the menu with help from our pros. Try Jan Frodeno’s perfect pancakes, Laura Philipp’s bangin’ breakfast burritos or kick back with a coffee to energise your day.

Join us for post-race chill outs with the pros:

  • Friday 7 October 2:30pm-4:00pm
  • Sunday 9 October 2:30pm-4:00pm

Friendly Canyon staff will also be on hand to answer any questions you have about our bikes, triathlon gear and cycling kit. Want to know your Canyon bike size? We can help.
