Refunding VAT on bikes exported to non-EU countries

Before submitting a refund request make sure you read and understand the following points.

  • In order for a refund to be approved, we need the export stamp of one of the listed countries: DE; DK; BE or NL.
  • For orders shipped to the Netherlands you need to follow a different procedure. Contact our local office for more information.
  • You cannot be refunded for shipping costs.
  • Canyon cannot provide pre-filled customs forms.
Refunding VAT on goods delivered to an EU address

This applies to countries listed above. Once you have received your order, you will need to visit the customs office of the last country you visit before leaving the EU border.

You will need official stamped confirmation of the below with proof of date and location.

  • Customs clearance of the exported goods listed on your Canyon receipt.
  • The residence address on your receipt matches your passport or equivalent ID.
  • Return the original invoice to Canyon along with your customs stamp and the details of the bank account you want to receive the refund. Be sure to make copies for your own records. The refund will be processed after the 30-day return period has expired.

Exporting bikes to a non-EU country

When importing a bike into a non-EU country you are responsible for checking the customs regulations and the amount of duties or tax to be paid. These costs differ depending on the country you’re in and the overall value of the bike being imported.

We ship orders with UPS and DHL Freight. In most cases, they will take care of the entire process and will invoice you for the total amount. If the delivery company doesn’t offer this service in your country, you will need to contact your local customs office.

Sending a bike to Canyon from a non-EU country

If you are sending your bike to us for servicing within the warranty period, we cover all import charges. If the bike is out of warranty, you will be charged the customs duties and import sales tax.

If the bike is being returned to a Canyon Service Centre within the EU, it’s possible to get duty-free clearance if you meet the following criteria.

  • The bike was delivered outside the EU in the last three years.
  • You have proof of the original export (export receipt or invoice with customs stamp).
  • The bike is being shipped from the same country it was delivered to.
