The Grizl does everything really well.

Want to race it? Go for it. The light carbon frame and stable-yet-responsive handling make it an excellent gravel racing bike—particularly on harder, rougher gravel courses, where the Grizl’s larger-volume tires are a big asset.

Want to go on a bike-packing adventure? Grizl can do that too, thanks to a bevy of pack mounts, water bottle mounts, comfort-enhancing design, and ease of customization.

In short, the Grizl is our do-it-all, ride-it-all gravel bike.

The short answer: Both are gravel bikes. The Grail is optimized for smoother off-road surfaces, while the Grizl is better suited to rougher terrain. The Grail is more efficient on-road, but slightly less capable than the Grizl off it. Along those lines, the Grizl is more comfortable on the rough stuff, but not as fast on the smooth.

Short answer: the Grizl is most at home on rough gravel thanks to its 45mm tires. Thanks to its massive frame clearance, you can run tires up to 50mm wide (if you don’t have fenders mounted), which means you can also mount some of the narrower, more XC-race oriented mountain bike tires—a good choice if you’re riding extremely rough surfaces.

Frame: The CF SLX weighs a stunning 950 grams thanks to an advanced carbon layup that keeps weight to an absolute minimum with no compromises on durability. The CF SL is still light and stiff, but weighs a bit more than the SLX due to its less advanced carbon construction.

Shifting: The CF SLX uses top-end groupsets to maximize shifting performance and minimize weight. Electronic shifting options are available on CF SLX models. The CF SL is fitted with mid-range mechanical groupsets that are reliable, more economical to repair, and still provide good performance.

Absolutely. All Grizl models will accommodate fenders. If you mount fenders to your Grizl, however, do not run tires any wider than 45mm.

You can run up to 50mm tires (without fenders mounted). The Grizl houses 50mm tires with an additional 6 mm of clearance on each side. We do not recommend using bigger tires. Doing so will reduce clearance and can result in paint or even frame damage if mud or grit carried by the tires makes contact with the frame.

Your tire pressure depends on so many factors, including total rider & bike weight, the surface you’re riding on, which tires you ae using and so on. If you pump up your tires too hard, you won’t have any grip on loose surfaces. Likewise, if you don’t have enough pressure in your tires, you run the risk of pinch flats, the tire feeling wobbly and unstable when cornering, or the rim banging against the ground when you roll over roots.

It might take a bit of trial and error to find your perfect pressure. If you’re experiencing any of the issues noted above, immediately stop and add or remove a bit of air accordingly. However, when you are experimenting with air pressures, never go outside the manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure range, which you will find printed on the side of the tire.

Short answer: No. It won’t slow you down.

Longer answer: The Rudy is designed to be active—that’s what enables it to mute the high-frequency chatter and vibration of gravel roads, while also handling bigger hits.

That said, the Rudy offers a fairly limited range of travel, when compared to a conventional mountain bike fork, so the fork is not bobbing up and down through its travel when you are motoring along.

What’s more, Rudy Ultimate forks (as equipped on our premium CF SLX Grizl model) also feature a lock-out switch, should you feel the need to run the fork absolutely rigid on certain stretches of your ride.
