Assemble Roadbike from BikeGuard

It is simple to assemble your Canyon bicycle. If you follow the instructions below, your bike will be ready to go within a couple of minutes.

1. Cut through the adhesive tape very carefully using a sharp knife or a pair of scissors. Be careful not to damage the BikeGuard.

2. Now you can pull the straps out of the slits and open the BikeGuard.

3. With every Canyon bicycle you receive a torque wrench. This wrench is placed on top of the pillar in the middle of the BikeGuard box. Take the wrench out of the box and keep it in a safe place. Now you can remove the seat pillar from the box.

4. In the rear part of the box you can find the seatpost fitted to the saddle. Take both items out of the BikeGuard. Picture 1

5. Now you can remove the front wheel from the box. Picture 2

6. Remove the rear wheel now. It is easier to remove if you push the sides of the BikeGuard apart. Please take extra care not to scratch the bike frame while you are taking the rear wheel out of the box.

7. Remove the frame from the box.

8. Fix the top tube on the workstand. Turn the fixing clamp of the workstand until the bike is securely fixed and cannot slide. The top tube is sensitive to pressure and could be damaged if the clamp exerts too much pressure on the tube.

9. Remove the foil from the handlebar. Please be very careful not to damage the cables attached to the handlebar.

10. Remove the front plate using a standard wrench, not a torque wrench.

11. Assemble the handlebar to the stem. Place the bar symmetrically to the stem. Tighten the screws using a torque wrench. Picture 3 Tighten each screw crosswise. Picture 4 Tighten each screw three times. It is important to tighten all screws with the correct torque. The correct torque is printed on the stem.

The slits between stem and front plate should have the same distance, both on top and on the bottom of the front plate.

12. Pull the plastic caps from the axles of both wheels. Picture 5

13. Now you can assemble the quick releases to the front wheel. The springs need to be placed correctly on the rods. Picture 6

14. Assemble the front wheel now. The wheel needs to be placed in the very centre of the dropouts. Picture 7 First turn the fixing screw and then you close the quick release lever. This lever should point backwards.
15. Now remove the foil from the chain stay. Use a pair of scissors and take extra care not to scratch the frame while cutting the foil.

16. Remove the small wooden slat. Picture 8 Mount the quick release to the rear wheel axle. Picture 9

17. Assemble the rear wheel now. Pull the cage of the rear derailleur backwards. The chain should be placed on the smallest sprocket. Picture 10

18. Close the brake releases on both brakes.

19. Now you can assemble the seatpost. Use carbon assembly paste if you have a frame or a seatpost made of carbon fibre and no grease. Picture 11 CAUTION:
On no account exceed the maximum extension length of the seat post. The seat post carries a corresponding mark on it to show this length.

20. Assemble the pedals (not included). Apply grease to the thread. Use a 15mm jaw wrench or a pedal wrench to tighten the pedal. Picture 12

21. Check the air pressure in both tyres. The suggested pressure is printed on the sides of the tyres. Pump up the tyre if necessary.
