Adjusting of spring elements

If you are using a full suspension mountain bike, it makes sense to fine tune the suspension fork and the rear shock so that they work in perfect harmony. In addition, the suspension components should be adjusted to cope with the demands of the terrain you’re riding on. This is best way of ensuring that you are in complete control of your bike because your tyres will have improved contact with the ground. This translates into outstanding grip!

Here are a few tips on how to fine tune your suspension:

Problem:: The entire range of travel feels too hard
Cause: The spring stiffness or air pressure is too high, or the rebound is adjusted too high
Remedy : Reduce spring stiffness or fit a softer spring, reduce rebound intensity

Problem:: The entire range of travel feels too soft
Cause:: The spring stiffness or air pressure is too low, or the rebound is adjusted too low
Remedy: Increase spring stiffness or fit a harder spring, increase rebound intensity

Problem: Good traction on hard bumps in the ground, however small bumps feel extremely hard
Cause: Compression damping is adjusted too high
Remedy: Reduce compression damping intensity

Problem: Suspension compresses too far on bumpy surfaces but doesn’t bottom out. The suspension feels too soft.
Cause: Remedy: Increase air pressure or spring stiffness

Problem:: The shock compresses fully on bumpy surfaces but feels excessively hard when riding over bumps
Cause: Remedy: Reduce the pre-adjusted spring stiffness, reduce compression damping intensity or fit softer spring

Problem: The performance of the suspension is good on single bumps, however on subsequent bumps the suspension feels too hard. In addition, when cornering traction is poor.
Cause: The compression damping is too high
Remedy: Reduce compression damping intensity

Problem:: The wheel leaves the ground after hitting a bump and the traction is poor on slight bumps
Cause: The rebound is too low
Remedy: Increase rebound intensity

Spring elements must not bottom out
