Perfect bikes for a trans-alp? For marathons and mega fun on the trails? The magazine Bike wanted to find out who fairs best. Eight high-end bikes took part in the test in the March edition 2010 - among them the Canyon Nerve XC 9.0 LTD.
Costing 3999 Euro the Canyon Nerve XC 9.0 LTD was positioned at the lower end of the price range, but was nevertheless able to impress: With a score of 125.5 points and the mark "Super", the high-end aluminium frame took on the competition and was able to leave even carbon test bikes in its wake. The outstanding components resulted in the lightest bike in the test weighing in at just 10.75 kg - that's 1.4 kg lighter than the heaviest bike in the "Premium Category". The bike is designed with maximum riding fun and performance in mind and this is demonstrated by the use of a Fox F120 FIT RLC QR15 at the front, which guarantees extremely precise function and can be adjusted to suit individual needs. The unanimous verdict of the magazine editors was: "You can't do any better than this." However this wasn't only the opinion about the fork: "For 3999 Euro one gets the best equipment one could wish for and inconspicuously wrapped." Form follows function - even in the premium category. "The aluminium chassis is fabulous, displays a great attention to detail and is also very stiff [...]. The material demonstrates that it is still a competitive alternative to carbon. The Fox fork and shock offer a wide range of adjustability, the DT wheels with carbon rims (including tyres and cassette) are by far the lightest in the test field [...]. In terms of acceleration no bike can put one over on the Canyon. The bike goes like a rocket and is firmly focused on the marathon rider."
Verdict: marathon racer with super equipment and long levels of travel. Right up there at the front in terms of value for money.
