5 Tips for Social Distanced Riding

5/13/20

Stay safe when riding alone—follow these key steps from ultra-endurance athlete Jeff Kerkove of Team Topeak-Ergon, winner of the 400-mile 2020 Stagecoach 400 MTB race on the Canyon Exceed in 40 hours, 42 minutes.

5 Tips for Social Distanced Riding
Get out, ride your bike, & maintain social distance
  • Plan a bike route
Use a map to plan your proposed cycling route. Cycling computers help remove guess work from navigation and can more-accurately calculate total ride time.
  • Carry a bike repair kit
When riding solo, it's always best to be prepared for an unfortunate breakdown—carry essential bike repair tools and spare parts, like an inner tube, pump, mini-tool, chain link, etc.
  • Minimize risks
Play it safe. Err on the side of caution to enjoy a safe ride on your bike.
  • Prepare for weather
It can rain—anywhere, at any time. Always wear and carry appropriate cycling apparel. Getting stranded in bad weather in the wrong clothing can be uncomfortable and unsafe.
  • Share your plan
Tell someone where you are going and when you plan to return—it's good peace of mind for you, your friends and family.

Play it safe. Err on the side of caution to enjoy a safe ride on your bike.
