Nerve AM 9.0 SL
Clear winner on points, best performance in the practice tests.
Conquer the entire mountain under your own steam. That's what characterizes the all-mountain bikes. That means: adjust your suspension to the uphill position, stomp up to the top of the climb and enjoy the downhill to the full. In its 06/2011 edition the magazine Bike looked for the ideal bike for the mountains. The Canyon Nerve AM 9.0 SL was one of the bikes taking part in the test.
On the very first climb the Nerve showed all the other candidates a clean pair of heels. "In this scrap of the all-mountain machines, the bike's low weight pays off when sprinting and the 12.6 kgs allow very fast acceleration". The Nerve is 300 g lighter than its closest rival and that's including the lowerable Rock Shox Reverb seat post.
As soon as one has reached the mountain top it's time for the downhill again. The Canyon impressed and received excellent marks for its suspension performance, brakes and stiffness. The bike achieved a total of 98.25 points and in the practice test - that's 4.75 points more than its closest rival! The gap to the rivals was even greater in the overall classification. The Canyon finished with 125.5 points, that's 5.75 points ahead of the bike in second place.
The Product Management at Canyon has done a terrific job on this bike. "With the range of equipment Canyon has once again thrown down the gauntlet at the competition. Shimano XTR, Formula-The-One-brakes, DT-Swiss-Tricon-wheels and the clever tyre combination of Nobby Nic Pace Star at the rear and Fat Albert at the front are almost unbeatable. [...] The bike is aimed specifically at touring bikers with its sporty frame geometry. [...] Do you just want to go for a ride out? -no problem for this bike. Do you want to ride a marathon? - also no sweat!"
Verdict: the best equipment and lightest bike by far.
