Canyon uses tube to tube construction on most of its carbon bikes. The fibre lay-up ensures stability in those areas of the frame which are subjected to excessive loads while delivering high levels of frame stiffness and comfort. Canyon's innovative approach and its unique position of having a CT scanner enables the Koblenz based manufacturer to maintain high quality standards in frame construction and offer a no-quibble 6 year guarantee on the frame. This bike is Marathon oriented to the point that the top tube is equipped for the addition of a seat post which can be adjusted from the handlebar. The rear wheel boasts a Syntace X-12 thru-axle. The entire Grand Canyon CF SLX range is equipped with a double chainring and Press Fit crankset. No shock absorbing seatpost is needed on the Canyon CF SLX 8.9 as the shorter seat stays do the job magnificently. The Impact Protection Unit developed by Canyon prevents the handlebar damaging the top tube in the event of a crash.
Although the Mavic Crossride wheels are in the budget category, the dynamic level of performance deliverd by the frame more than makes up for that. On the Nerve CF 26", Canyon has already proven its skill in making the best possible use of the material carbon, but the Canyon CF SLX 8.9 is another major step forward in this quest for perfection.
The bike is a perfect marriage between scintillating forward thrust and comfort, the equipment is well chosen (as is often the case with Canyon) and as a rider myself I can't remember ever having enjoyed riding a hardtail this much! The downhill performance is also something else and gives you a true feeling of exhilaration.
No matter what the terrain or the ride intensity, the Grand Canyon CF SLX is in a word the best performing bike in the test!
