Alejandro Valverde has clinched the rainbow bands after outsprinting his rivals to the line at the road world championships in Innsbruck. The Spaniard led the charge for the finish, holding off the competition following a gruelling 258.5km day to finally claim the elusive title after 12 appearances at the race. His seventh podium placing in 15 years, Valverde’s performance atop the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX concludes not only a long history of near misses at the world championships, but an incredible comeback just one year after his season-ending injury at Le Tour. Congratulations to one of the most impressive riders in the modern peloton. ¡Viva Valverde!
