Highlights

If you want to make the most of your local trails, then buying a lightweight hardtail like the Grand Canyon AL SL 7.9 will get you quickly to the next level. Made from 6061 TS aluminum, the AL SL 7.9 frame has been optimised for 29ner wheels to ensure responsive handling while taking advantage of the big wheels’ ability to eat up the trails. Pairing this frame with the RockShox Reba RL suspension fork will guarantee oodles of grip and traction while smoothing out all the slippery rock gardens. With 110mm of travel and the One Loc remote Lockout system, you can keep your ride plush or switch it quickly to a more responsive climbing lockout mode, perfect for intense rides or race situations. For big jumps or rutty trails, the Shimano Deore XT Shadow Plus rear derailleur will ensure you’ll never jump gears, and will minimise chain slap. Using Deore for the 10-speed cassette with an 11-36 spread will ensure crisp shifts and effective ratios so you’ll always find the right gear for the situation. The Mavic CrossRide FTS-X wheelset provide a durable ride with a snappy feel since they keep the weight down while the QRM hub bearings reduce rolling resistance. For XS and S sized bikes, the wheels are 27.5” to ensure none of the manoeuvrability is compromised. Hop on a Grand Canyon AL SL 7.9 and dive deep into your local forest trails.

BIKE CLASSIFICATION: Bikes in this category include those from categories 1 and 2 and are designed for harsher, unpaved terrain. The scope for these bikes includes occasional jumps up to a maximum height of 60 cm. Jumps of this scale can cause inexperienced riders to have accidents on landing, which can result in injury. Hardtail mountain bikes and full-suspension bikes with short travel are included in this category.
